Downing Table Lamp in Silver - Ralph Lauren

Designed by Ralph Lauren for Visual Comfort, the Downing Table Lamp draws its shape from English candlestick holders of the turn of the century, given weight and presence for a contemporary room. Decorative ribbing runs the length of the supporting rod, and a beveled base grounds the piece with quiet solidity.

The Butler's Silver finish is built up in layers over solid brass, plated and burnished to read like silver that's been polished by hand for decades rather than fresh from the factory. It catches the light softly rather than gleaming, with the kind of patina usually only found on inherited pieces.

A silk box pleat shade sits atop, its fine folds diffusing the light into a warm, even glow rather than a hard pool underneath.

At 78.7cm tall, Downing has genuine presence, suited to a console, sideboard or either side of a sofa where a lamp needs to hold its own rather than disappear into the room.
