Fish first appeared in Piero Fornasetti's work decades before this wallpaper existed, turning up on his silk scarves, trays and porcelain long before Cole & Son translated the motif onto paper. He was drawn to the idea that marine life looks simple from a distance but holds something stranger and more mysterious once you look closer, an idea that gives Acquario its name.

The fish themselves are drawn with a naive, almost cartoonish charm rather than realism, each one distinct, scattered across a softly washed background rather than lined up in a rigid grid. It's a design that rewards a second look rather than reading as pattern at a glance.

Acquario comes in five colourways: Seafoam, a pale aquatic wash true to the design's name; Soot, a darker, moodier ground; Taupe, a muted neutral option; Ink, a deep charcoal-blue; and Dark Viridian, a rich, saturated green.
